If you don't mind using another media player to play back your files, I would highly recommend VLC Media Player (www.videolan.org). It has always played almost every file I've ever thrown at it (inlucing DVD's with Menu's).

I'm wondering if you have checked into the XP Codec Pack, (www.xpcodecpack.com). It seems to install only decent (and legal codecs) but I still have some troubles with playing movies in Media Center. I'm guessing it doesn't register all of them the way MC is looking for. The bonus is they include the Sherlock Codec Detective in their install which tells me I have every codec I should ever need, just none of them work in MC. Thanks and let me know what you think of it.

With regards to Quicktime and Real, I'd highly recommend QuicktimeAlternative and RealAlternative. Both make use of MediaPlayerClassic, but allow for the playback of Quicktime and Real files without needing the "official" packages installed. QTA has recently been updated to support QT7 files as well…
